SEMPA - Scanning Electron Microscopy with Polarisation Analysis

Magnetic domain structure of a Fe whisker imaged with SEMPA. Acquisition time: 5 min. The colour coded image shows the typical fir tree structure with 4 different magnetisation directions, as indicated by the colour wheel. During each measurement 2 orthogonal spin directions are recorded simultaneously, the combination of the two images (example below) may then be displayed as a colour coded image (above).
